While in college, Ed served as editor-in-chief of thestudent newspaper, The Souwester. The desire to be on the front lines served him well as an infantrylieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a ceremonial platoon leader at ArlingtonNational Cemetery and received the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge forhis service in Vietnam.

Ed graduated from Vanderbilt School of Law and RhodesCollege. The most important things to him are faith, family and work, in thatorder. He and his wife, Cindy, have three children, Charles, Robert andAllison. An active caver, he has been exploring caves since the age of 15across the United States, in Mexico and in Honduras. He also enjoys takingphotographs, particularly of his caving expeditions, with his Nikon cameras.His photography collection consists of more than 17,000 Kodachrome slides andmore than 6,000 negatives.
