Mark J. Caruso is a partner at Abrams Fensterman, LLP and co-director of the firm's real estate law group.
Mr. Caruso concentrates and has extensive experience in all areas of real estate law in both commercial and residential real estate, representing the interests of both buyers and sellers, including the preparation and review of contracts, closing transactions, lease and 1031 exchange. In addition to working on real estate transactions, Mr. Caruso has experience and has handled various real estate litigation cases, including partitions, easements, illegal possession and violations of sales contracts, among others. Mr. Caruso is considered a knowledgeable real estate lawyer and has lectured on real estate several times in addition to being the head of the real estate section of the Brooklyn Bar Association for several years. He successfully argued before the Appellate Division of the Second Department, and several of his court cases were reported on the front page of the New York Law Journal.
In addition to real estate, Mr. Caruso has experience in the practice of business law, including business disputes, the formation of corporate and partnership relations and representing clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, as well as experience in the preparation of Wills and Surrogate litigation, probate and administrative procedures.
Prior to joining Abrams, Fensterman, Mr. Caruso was a partner at Caruso, Caruso and Brand P.S., where he joined the firm in 1978 with his father Leroy F. Caruso, who founded the firm in 1952 in the Dyker Heights/Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Mr. Caruso has been appointed New York's super real estate lawyer since 2019, and only 5% of lawyers in the New York Metro area have earned this distinction.
Mr. Caruso holds a bachelor's degree from Colgate University and a juris doctor from Hofstra University Law School. In 1978, he was admitted to the New York State Bar, United States District Court, Eastern District and Southern District of the United States.
