Linda M. Correia is a founding member of Correia Puth, PLLC, where she focuses her practice exclusively on the rights and representation of employees who have experienced discrimination or retaliation and students and educators who have experienced sexual assault, sex discrimination in athletics, or retaliation at school. Ms. Correia has successfully represented employees and students who have been targets of sex discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation under Title VII, Title IX, and other state and federal civil rights statutes. She also counsels employees with other workplace concerns and in severance negotiations.
In 2009, the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association honored Ms. Correia as its Lawyer of the Year. Ms. Correia shared in the 2000 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award presented by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, in recognition of her former firm's work in Hartman v. Powell, a class action sex discrimination case that resulted in the largest employment discrimination award in the history of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Ms. Correia is named in Super Lawyer as one of the top employment litigators (plaintiff) in Washington, DC, and has been recognized as among the highest rated attorneys from her peers since 2009 from Best Lawyers in the Washington, DC area. Ms. Correia is rated by Martindale-Hubbell as AV Preeminent, the highest attorney peer review rating.
As a part of her employment practice, Ms. Correia has also navigated the bankruptcy system on behalf of her own clients and those of other employment lawyers. After winning a jury verdict in favor of her client in a sexual harassment matter, for instance, Ms. Correia successfully argued in Merriex v. Beale, 253 B.R. 644 (Bankr. D. Md. 2000) that the debtor was not permitted to discharge in bankruptcy the judgments entered against him.
Ms. Correia has represented plaintiffs in state and federal courts in the District of Columbia, and in federal courts in Maryland, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts. Ms. Correia also has appeared in bankruptcy courts in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and New York. Ms. Correia has taught Pretrial Litigation at the Washington College of Law of the American University.
Ms. Correia served as President of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (2004-2007), where she continues to serve on the Board of Directors. Ms. Correia also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Board of Directors of the Public Justice Foundation and on the Board of Governors of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Ms. Correia is a 1991 graduate of the Washington College of Law of the American University and earned her undergraduate degree from Boston University in 1985. Ms. Correia is a member of the Bar of Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
