Newton Anderson is the Managing Member of Spicer Rudstroms Memphis office. He also serves as the Chair of the firms Employment Law practice area. His practice handling various types of civil cases has taken him to all state and federal courts in West Tennessee and occasionally beyond. He advises corporate clients on business matters and has represented clients in landlord-tenant and other commercial real estate matters for more than 30 years. Prior to entering private practice in 1982, he served as a Law Clerk for two judges of the Circuit Court of Shelby County. A firm believer in the benefits of mediation and other methods of alternate dispute resolution in appropriate cases, Newton took the required course of study and became a Tennessee Rule 31 Listed General Civil Mediator in 2005.Working as an attorney is something that runs in his family. His aunt, Emily Anderson Kindel, was the only woman in the graduating class of 1939 from the University of Tennessee College of Law. He had an uncle who was also a successful corporate attorney. The encouragement of both his aunt and his uncle, from both sides of his family, was helpful in his decision to become a lawyer.Newton is a longtime volunteer for Youth Leadership of Memphis, working with young men to help instill the principles of strength, honor and truth. When not representing clients or involved in firm management, Newton enjoys spending time with his wife and two adult children, exercising, riding his bicycle, baking artisan bread, playing drums or picking a banjo. He was in a Top 40 cover band in college and reunites with longtime friends every week to play their favorite rock ?n roll tunes.
