About the lawyer
Jill Ann Colemans critical understanding of the commercial lending process across all types of credit structures allows her to pursue business opportunities for her clients while minimizing the intrinsic risks of large, complicated loans. Jills finance clients include major corporations, public-private ventures, commercial banks and private funds. She is particularly distinguished for her representation of borrowers in complex commercial financing transactions, including both secured (by real estate and other assets) and unsecured loans.
Jill has served as the primary counsel on financing matters for, among other clients, a large publicly held real estate investment trust (REIT), which owns and develops first-class regional shopping malls throughout the U.S. She represented this client and certain of its affiliates in connection with the $2.55 billion commercial mortgage-backed securitized (CMBS) financing of its headquarters and 28 portfolio properties? one of the single largest CMBS transactions ever consummated. Jill also represents several private developers on financing matters for joint ventures formed with branches of the U.S. Military (the Army, the Navy or the Air Force) for privatization and redevelopment of military family and unaccompanied personnel housing projects under the Residential Communities Initiative.
In December 2007, the editors and bureau chiefs of The Bond Buyer recognized Pacific Beacon LLC for its $307.2 million deal for the Naval Base San Diego Unaccompanied Housing Project as the winner of their 2007 award for innovative nontraditional public finance transactions. Neal Gerber Eisenberg acted as lead counsel on behalf of the project owner in connection with this transaction, with Jill responsible for closing the financing for it.
Additionally, Jill has advised lenders on both their customary commercial financings and their more complex and unusual transactions, including distressed loan workouts, commercial foreclosures and debtor-in-possession financings.
While in law school, she was a senior editor of the Michigan Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
