Nick's practice focuses on the representation of law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders who keep injuries in line of duty. Nick represents law enforcement and first responders from departments across the state. Nick also handles medical retirement claims filed through the Fire and Pensions Association (FPPA). In 2017, Nick supported the passage of HB1229, which changed legal standards to allow approval of worker compensation benefits for first responders related to PTSD on duty. Nick regularly gives seminars and presentations to law enforcement and first responder groups on worker compensation.
In 2016, Nick was named outstanding Claimant Attorney of the year. The award is given for exemplary service and diligent representation of injured workers, as recognized by workers compensation specialists. Nick is proud to be the founding Director of the Jeremy Bitner Fallen Officer Fund. The fund was created in honor of Detective Jeremy Bittner, who was killed in a dui while on duty. The fund provides support to the families of officers killed in the line of duty. Nick is also a board member of the Denver Firefighter Foundation whose mission is to improve the safety and quality of life of firefighters. Nick is also a board member of the Colorado Institute of Justice whose mission is to ensure merit-based selection of judges. Nick has volunteered for the ZRBG pension Project, which represents Holocaust survivors, to confirm pension benefits from the German government. Nick is also a board member of the Workers Compensation Education Association.
