Paula K. Jacobi is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes Thornburg, where she is a member of the firm's Finance, Insolvency and Restructuring Department. She has more than 25 years of experience in virtually all areas of insolvency law, in court litigation and reorganization cases and out-of-court work-outs, representing debtors, secured creditors, trustee, receivers, landlords, REITS, and unsecured creditors.

Paula's insolvency work includes significant amounts of business litigation, defense and prosecution of fraudulent and preferential transfer cases and litigation to recover on secured and unsecured debts.

Paula represents a variety of clients, including financial institutions, lenders, REITS, corporate creditors, secured and unsecured, corporate and partnership debtors, assignees for the benefit of creditors, trustees, and receivers. She has a breadth of experience with financing, contracting and leasing for corporate clients, and has extensive trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts.

For her work in bankruptcy and business litigation, Paula has been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine in 2005, 2008-2009, 2012-2018. Since 2017, Paula has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for her work in real estate law.

Paula received her B.Ed. in 1972 from the University of Michigan, where she was a James B. Angel Scholar and conducted her graduate studies in psychiatric social work at Smith College (1972-73). She attended the University of Cincinnati School of Law (1974-75), where she was a member of the Law Review and recipient of the Constitutional Law Award. She earned her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 1977 and was on the Dean's List and was a senior staff editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology.

Paula is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, as well as the American and Illinois State bar associations. She is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois and in numerous federal circuit (7th and 9th Circuits), district (Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois and Indiana), and bankruptcy courts throughout the country.
