Dick has a litigation practice that includes insurance coverage litigation, professional liability defense, commercial and business litigation, products liability defense and civil rights defense. He has tried lawsuits throughout Idaho, and he has handled appeals before the Idaho Supreme Court, the Idaho Court of Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Dick also has handled matters before various state agencies, including the Idaho Human Rights Commission and the Idaho State Board of Medicine, involving disciplinary and licensing disputes.
Dick is a member of the Idaho State Bar, and has served as a member of the Idaho State Bar Character and Fitness Committee and the Conditional Admission Subcommittee. Dick is a member of the Defense Research Institute, and serves on the Insurance Law Committee, the CGL Subcommittee, and the Professional Liability Committee. Dick is also a member of the Claims Litigation Management Alliance, in which he is a member of the Professional Liability Committee and the Miscellaneous Agents Brokers Subcommittee. Dick earned a B.A. in English from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1979. After college, Dick worked as a claims representative for California Casualty Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California. He also worked as a legal intern at Foss, Schuman and Drake, a medium sized law firm in Chicago, Illinois.
In 1981 Dick entered Lewis Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, working full time during law school as a legal research specialist for Legal Information Access Service and as a certified legal intern for the law firm of Gallup, Duggan, Tubbs and Heurlin in Vancouver, Washington. During law school, Dick received the American Jurisprudence Awards in Torts and Constitutional Law. Dick graduated from law school in 1984.
Following law school, Dick served a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Deborah A. Bail of the Fourth Judicial District of Idaho from 1984 to1985. In 1985 Dick joined the predecessor firm of Carey Perkins LLP as an associate attorney, and has practiced as an attorney with Carey Perkins LLP and its predecessor firm since that time. In 1998, Dick was one of the attorneys who started the firm now named Carey Perkins LLP.
