About the lawyer
Kathryn Cochrane Murphy has extensive experience in every aspect of commercial real estate transactions. She represents developers, business and non-profit owners, governmental agencies and institutional lenders in acquisitions, dispositions, permitting, financings, design and construction contracts, procurement matters, leasing, ground leases, and condominium matters. She has frequently structured and carried out the legal aspects of complex, mixed-use developments, including the drafting and negotiation of development agreements and land disposition agreements on behalf of institutional and governmental land owners. She represents banks and other lenders in connection with construction and permanent financings and has handled foreclosures, workouts and note purchases and sales for a national bank.
Kathy has a special interest and experience in representing educational institutions in connection with real estate, permitting and procurement matters. She has advised governmental agencies on development projects and design and construction contracts, and has drafted new ordinances and statutory provisions for governmental units and businesses.
Kathy graduated from Yale College, cum laude, and Boston College Law School, magna cum laude. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a member and former steering committee member of New England Women in Real Estate (NEWIRE) and a member of the Urban Land Institute. She is a Trustee of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and the YWCA Boston and an Honorary Trustee of the Boston Children's Museum. She has served as a panelist on the ALI/ABA Modern Real Estate Transactions and Commercial Leasing courses and has contributed to the ABA Mortgage Foreclosure book and the State-by-State Guide to Commercial Real Estate Leases.
Kathy is a Best Lawyer in America in Real Estate Law, awarded by U.S. News World Report, and has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer in Real Estate Law by Thomson Reuter and Boston Magazine since 2006. She received the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) 2013 Network Impact Award, and the NEWiRE 2013 Networking Award for the Bolling Building, in 2017 for the One Greenway Project, and in 2018 for the Holmes Beverly Project, and is listed in the Who's Who Legal, Real Estate Attorney since 2012.
