Jelena J. Libby, Ph. Dr. Libby is a partner of McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP, whose practice focuses on the development and management of patent and trademark portfolios, opinion work, consensus and client counseling, and represents large and medium-sized multinationals, science-based startups, universities, and research institutions.

Dr. Libby's technical experience spans a wide variety of chemical, pharmaceutical and related technologies, including pharmaceutical and related formulations, natural products, polymers, catalysts, materials, photonics, semiconductors, cosmetics and personal care products, food and beverage chemistry, and petrochemicals.  Her practice covers all aspects of patent application, reissue, reexamination, free operation and due diligence opinions, strategy development, counseling, as well as trademark filing and counseling.  Dr. of the Year Libby also has experience in various aspects of inter partes review and patent litigation including the Hatch-Waxman Act, including working with expert witnesses, assisting with the discovery of facts and experts, exercise practice and legal research.

Prior to joining MBHB, he was a graduate research assistant at the University of Chicago, where he focused on synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry while developing new anticancer drugs and eleven analogues. Her research was also involved in molecular biology, Saccharomyces cerevisiae genetics, and proteomics to identify biological targets for anticancer agents.  Dr. Libby also synthesized and characterized acrylic adhesives as a technical assistant at the 3M Adhesive Technology Center.  Her undergraduate studies studied the electronic properties of furan derivatives that capped ferrocene.

Dr. Libby is the author of a variety of publications, including publications in Nature Chemical Biology and the Journal of The American Chemical Society, and is listed as the inventor of the U.S. patent issued.
