About the lawyer
Brian Murray has experience with a range of issues in communications law, with an emphasis on the regulatory treatment of Voice-over-Internet Protocol and broadband-based services. In addition to assisting clients with matters relating to emerging technologies, Mr. Murray has significant experience with more traditional telecommunications and media issues, including in particular the regulation of cable companies. He also advises companies on cybersecurity matters, including in proceedings before regulatory agencies that address cybersecurity issues. Mr. Murray's clients have included cable operators, traditional telecommunications providers, Internet-based competitors, and other new entrants.
Mr. Murrays practice includes participation in rulemaking and adjudicatory proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission, and counseling on transactions and regulatory compliance. He has also represented clients at all levels of the federal courts and before a number of state public service commissions. In addition, Mr. Murray has assisted companies in several industries, including communications, in reviews by CFIUS as well as in the similar review process conducted by the Team Telecom agencies in conjunction with transactions requiring approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Mr. Murray was a partner in the communications group of a global, Am Law 100 law firm. Following law school, he clerked for Judge Frank Mays Hull in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and for Judge Louis F. Oberdorfer in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
