In May 2013, Alice Paylor became the fourth female presidentof the South Carolina Bar and the third member of her firm to hold theposition. She continues to serve herprofession as a member of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and as aSouth Carolina State Delegate to the American Bar Association (ABA) House ofDelegates.
Alices practice focuses primarily on complex commerciallitigation, employment litigation, school law and zoning law. Her commercial litigation practice includesrepresentation of all types of business entities in contract disputes, businesstorts, lender-borrower litigation, and more. She represented The Beach Companyin a major planning and zoning appeal, in which she successfully challenged theCity of Charlestons Board of Architectural Reviews attempts to rezone theSergeant Jasper site in Charleston and to prevent its redevelopment.
In her employment law practice Alice represents bothemployers and employees in various employment matters including FLSA,discrimination, non compete, and wrongful termination. Alice also has significant experience workingwith school districts, private schools and charter schools. She represented the Charleston County School Districtin a major school desegregation case that deemed the district a unitary schooldistrict.
She joined Rosen Hagood as an associate in 1982, was made apartner/shareholder five years later and served as the firms managingshareholder from 2003 to 2008. She remains a member of its ManagementCommittee.
Alice received her undergraduate degree from the Universityof North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her J.D. from the University of SouthCarolina School of Law. She served for the next several years as DeputyCorporation Counsel for the City of Charleston, helping to navigate complexlitigation in which the City was involved.
