About the lawyer
LeElle Slifer is a partner in the Dallas office of Burns Charest LLP. Ms. Slifer has litigated claims in federal and state courts across the nation, before both judges and juries, and participated in numerous arbitrations, including before the International Chamber of Commerce in London.
She has experience in a wide range of matters, including contract disputes, oil and gas royalty underpayments, breach of fiduciary duty, antitrust claims, patent and copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, and even the seizure of multi-million dollar cargo barges. She has also handled appeals to several federal and state courts of appeal, including the United States Supreme Court in Comcast Corp. v. Behrend.
Among the high-profile matters she is currently litigating is a lawsuit on behalf of a Harvard Law student against the university because tuition prices and fees have remained the same despite classes moving to remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms. Slifer was also a member of the trial team that won the first patent infringement case to survive a challenge at the Federal Circuit after the Supreme Court issued Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank Intl, and was the only case to do so for almost two years.
Ms. Slifer is a native Texan who graduated from Duke University and Harvard Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law Public Policy. She then clerked in Houston on the Fifth Circuit and began her practice at the firm of Susman Godfrey, first in Dallas and then in New York City, where she lived for several years. She retains an active bar membership in both states and still practices in New York frequently.
In addition to her recognition in Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch (Commercial Litigation Energy Law), she was honored to the list of Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars in 2020 and that same year was named among D Magazines Best Lawyers Under 40.
