Robert A. Silverman joined the firms Philadelphia office in March 2009 as a member in the Business Law Department. For the period from September 1981 through his arrival at Cozen O'Connor he practiced in the Real Estate Department of another major Philadelphia law firm, where he was a partner since 1989.
A member in the Real Estate Practice Group, Robert represents developers, lenders and owners in a variety of sophisticated transactions, including the development of office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, apartment buildings and condominiums. His practice also includes the representation of residential developers and homebuilders, opportunistic purchasers of commercial real estate, buyers and sellers of investment quality properties, and borrowers and lenders in workout and foreclosure situations. Robert also actively participates in real estate litigation matters.
A member of the Pennsylvania Bar, Robert is a past chairman of the Financing and Securitization Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Associations Real Property Section, and is a past member of the Executive Board of the Philadelphia Bar Associations Real Property Section. Robert is a frequent author on real estate topics, including non-recourse carveouts, shopping center leasing, lender liability, mortgage foreclosure and condominium issues.
Robert earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Franklin and Marshall College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was an editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.
