Recent matters include, among others, representation of Visa in the largest antitrust multidistrict litigation in the country, Valassis in a jury trial in the Southern District of New York against News Corp, Travelport in a billion-dollar dispute with Blackstone, Fortress, Bain Capital, and other lenders, a pre-eminent law firm in its defense of claims brought by Carl Icahn, HSBC and a major government-sponsored enterprise in billions of dollars of claims relating to mortgage-backed securities, and a major London-based CLO manager in claims relating to an exchange transaction engaged in by Serta.
Mike has represented numerous clients in high-profile and highly contested domestic and cross-border matters across a variety of disciplines and in a multiplicity of fora, and has successfully tried cases and argued appeals in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Mike recently prevailed in a Second Circuit argument on behalf of holders of Argentine debt, and in a separate matter secured a verdict in excess of $2 billion in a trial against the Lehman estate. He has extensive experience in and has secured favorable awards in arbitrations under the ICC, AAA, and other rules. Mike has represented as lead trial counsel a whos who of corporate America, including Amerada Hess, Comcast, General Re, Raytheon, and numerous others.
For several years, he has been ranked by Benchmark Litigation, Legal 500, and Chambers USA, which has reported that he is fantastic with clients, has super judgment, and has the right style and charisma for a courtroom litigator. Mike was recognized as one of 25 Litigation Trailblazers by The National Law Journal.
Before co-founding Holwell Shuster Goldberg, Mike was a litigation partner at an Am Law 200 firm and at White Case, where he served as Global Head of Commercial Litigation.
