Pamela Slater Gilman - Lawyer in Boston, MA

Pam is one of the most accomplished triallawyers in Massachusetts. She has tried and won over 70 cases in herdistinguished career, including medical malpractice, personal injury, premisesliability, and products liability. In addition to her busy trial practice, Pammaintains a consulting practice assisting other lawyers in preparing witnessesto present most effectively at depositions and trial.

Pam has represented physicians and nurses inmatters before the Board of Registration in Medicine, the Board of Registrationof Chiropractors, and the Board of Registration in Nursing. She regularlyserves as a consultant to physician groups, hospitals, and medical malpracticecarriers concerning risk management matters.

In 2013, Pam agreed to serve as the firmsco-managing partner for the Boston office for the third time. She served asmanaging partner from 2008 through 2011, after first serving in the role in1995. At the time, Pam was one of the first women to ascend to managing partnerof a Massachusetts law firm.

In 1988-89, she served as an Instructor of Law at BostonUniversity School of Law.RepresentativeAccomplishments Pam has achieved many notable accomplishmentsin her litigation career. For instance, she persuaded the Massachusetts SupremeJudicial Court to dismiss a negligence lawsuit against an organ bank based ongood faith immunity under the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act. Carey v. NewEngland Organ Bank, 446 Mass. 270 (2006). The SJCs opinion established newlaw in Massachusetts on applying the good faith immunity standard. She has successfully defended numerous healthcare providers in medical malpractice trials, including most recently:

• An organ procurement organization accused of approvingfor possible transplant a kidney donor who had a high risk of infection.
• A registered nurse who allegedly failed to administeranti-coagulant medication, resulting in a fatal pulmonary embolism.
• An anesthetist and nurse-anesthetist who allegedlyfailed to properly position a patient during surgery, resulting in severefacial scarring.
• An obstetrician who allegedly failed to timely performa cesarean section.
• A physician assistant in a case alleging wrongfulbirth (defense verdict upheld on appeal).

Pam also successfully defended a residential group home in a wrongfuldeath lawsuit alleging a failure to provide emergency care to a group homeresident. In addition, she was designated as the lead trial attorney amongtwelve defendants in a products liability case filed against national productmanufacturers.

Professional and Civic Affiliations

Pamis a member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. She is veryactive in her local community, where she volunteers for numerous projects. Pamcompleted the 2014 Boston Marathon as a member of Team in Training to supportthe Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS). This was her second marathon. Sheran the 2007 Boston Marathon, also for LLS. When not running marathons, Pam hasserved on the Leadership Board for LLS's Light the Night Walk in Boston.
