About the lawyer
Joel Quick focuses his practice on land use and real estate law, providing a full array of legal services for any commercial or residential development project, including analyzing land use and local environmental regulations and appearing before public bodies to seek needed relief. Joel also negotiates and drafts any restrictions, easements, and covenants required by a municipality as a condition of approval, and, if needed, will seek amendment of affordability, conservation, and preservation restrictions. With experience acting as counsel for a number of municipalities and municipal boards, Joel is able to provide his private clients with a broad and balanced perspective of the land use approval process.
When litigation is necessary to produce the desired result or protect the clients rights, Joel provides robust representation in matters including zoning, subdivision, title to land, historical preservation, commercial leases, rights-of-ways and other easement rights, real estate receivership, health code violations, public rights in tidelands, hazardous waste cleanup, construction, and siting of energy generating facilities.
Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Joel was an associate with Mead, Talerman Costa, and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Chief Justice Gordon H. Piper of the Massachusetts Land Court. Prior to the clerkship he served as an interim assistant solicitor for the city of Somerville and worked for Andrew Rainer, P.C.
While in law school, Joel completed four externships: with the United States Attorneys Office, the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, the Southern Environmental Law Center, and Thornton Law Firm, LLP.
