Guy Martin is one of the senior natural resources, energy and environmentallawyers in Washington, D.C., with years of direct high level experience in theCongress, in the Executive Branch and at the state level. Guy has years ofexperience representing and counseling clients with serious objectives andproblems to solve in the federal government. He covers virtually every resourcearea from land and water to energy resources, as well as Indian law and policy,including tribal gaming issues. His emphasis is leading complex projects toachieve client objectives in the federal government, from specific legislativeprovisions to policy decisions in support of client objectives, and clearing theway through federal permits and approvals for client objectives to succeed onthe offense or on the defense. To do so, Guy develops strategy for the project,forms a team which taps the potential of the client, others at Perkins Coie andoutside consultants, and then engages in an active campaign that is totallydevoted to client objectives.
Current and recent clients include: theWestern Urban Water Coalition, the 13th Region of Alaska Natives, the GeothermalEnergy Association, the Metropolitan Water Department for Southern Californiaand numerous major urban water agencies in the western United States, BurlingtonResources, Morgan Stanley Real Estate, El Paso Natural Gas, the Governor ofPennsylvania and numerous counties and municipalities nationwide, Boeing, StarkInvestments and other financial companies, Magna Entertainment and other racingand gaming interests, business and community groups nationwide and many others.
As a former high level resources official at the Department of Interior,Congressional staff member, and the highest state resources official in Alaska,Guy works easily and authoritatively with those in office now on difficult legaland policy issues where knowledge and credibility are essential. Strategiccounseling, focused representation, negotiation and litigation are all toolsused with the Congress and the key resources agencies of the federal governmentincluding Interior, Energy, EPA, Agriculture, Commerce and the White House,among others.
Prior to practicing law, Guy served as the AssistantSecretary of the Interior for Land and Water Resources, and prior to that he wasthe Commissioner of Natural Resources for the State of Alaska. He also servedas the Director and Washington, D.C. Counsel for the State of Alaska District ofColumbia Office. Guy started his career as a Legislative Assistant toCongressman Nick Begich (Alaska).
Guy earned his law degree from theUniversity of Colorado Law School in 1967 and his bachelor's degree from theUniversity of Colorado in 1964.
