Born and raised in Honolulu, Lori is a 1995 graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute. She obtained her B.A. from the University of Hawaii in 1999, where she received degrees in Biology and Chemistry.
Lori earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from the William S. Richardson School of Law in 2004, and was salutatorian of her law school class. She received various awards including the Michael P. Porter Deans Scholastic Award for obtaining the number one ranking in her class during her 2L year, Deans Scholar Award, and the Francis Y. Sogi Fellowship Award.
While in law school, she served as a co-production editor and a member of the University of Hawaii Law Review and authored ERISA and Federal Preemption Following Rush Prudential HMO, Inc. v. Moran: Preemptive Effects Felt in Hawaii, 25 U. Haw. L. Rev. 593 (2003) and Ozaki and Comparative Negligence: Imposing Joint Liability Where a Duty to Protect or Prevent Harm from Third Party Intentional Tortfeasors Exists is Fairer to Plaintiffs and Defendants, 26 Haw. L. Rev. 575, 2004. Lori is a member of the Hawaii Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before all Hawaii courts, the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
