Michael frequently counsels clients on data privacy issues and the implementation of global data protection laws and regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), among others. He assists clients investigating, responding and mitigating data breaches and other security incidents.

Michael also counsels clients in technology and intellectual property transactions, and has developed a focus on cloud computing, blockchain, machine learning and other artificial intelligence-related concepts. In addition to counseling, his work also includes negotiation of cloud computing agreements, software and technology licenses, as well as intellectual property, privacy and cybersecurity diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Notably, Michael earned a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification offered by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Michael is a member of the team assisting the Special Compliance Coordinator appointed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to monitor, assess and report on the U.S. export control compliance of Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment Corporation, of Shenzhen, China, and ZTE Kangxun Telecommunications Ltd. of Hi-New Shenzhen, China (collectively, ZTE).

Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as a software engineer designing and developing business intelligence, warehousing and customer relationship management software. As a result, Michael understands, from personal experience, the challenges his clients face when developing complex products or services while tackling constantly fluent legal and compliance requirements.

Michael, a native of Poland, also assists U.S. and Polish clients in connection with their business pursuits in the United States and central Europe.

Before joining Barnes Thornburg, Michael was an IP and technology transactions associate at an international law firm in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. He also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Deborah A. Robinson, magistrate judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
